GENERAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK NIGERIA

The Global Entrepreneurship Week [GEW], marked worldwide annually, in November, will be held on the 18th to the 24th of November, 2013. It is a week-long celebration carried out in over 140 countries around the world, to celebrate and showcase innovation and creativity. In Nigeria, several events take place during the week, including workshops, radio programs, and awareness walks to name a few.

In Nigeria, we at the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University, formerly known as the Pan-African University, are proud to be the host for the country! We aim to promote the spirit of enterprise, by creating and faciliating programs, before, during, and after GEW, that help in the reduction of unemployment, and empower the Nigerian people, especially the youth, through entrepreneurship. We have many programs, mentorship channels and workshops outlined each year, that every Nigerian can participate in, and we have been told that our programs are a highly welcome development, and would love to do more.

During the GEW the youth, among other participants e.g. policy-makers, educational practitioners, other entrepreneurs, are encouraged to participate and network for growth and more development. This

This year, the GEWNg will be a platform wherein social sector entrepreneurs will come to talk about sustainability and governmental support, though a new activity for GEWNg, all sociala entrepreneurs should look forward to this, it promises to be worth your while.

This year’s GEWNg was as usual launched with a Partners Forum, held July 26th, 2013. The Forum consists of a gathering of stakeholders, sponsors and alumni members to reflect on the previous year’s event and  achievements, and to brainstorm on how to make 2013 more impactful than the previous years.

Outstanding stakeholders are rewarded on efforts made to empower the youth especially through entrepreneurship, which is what the GEW is all about. In this year's Partners Forum, one of the Awardees, Start-Up Hub, was honored because of the Student Dialogue Initiative.

"We partnered with NYSC Lagos, to empower Corp members who had outstanding entrepreneurial ideas. We received over 2000 applications and after much deliberation we selected 300 Corp members to empower financially and mentor them in their chosen businesses."- Chuks Aguene, The CEO said.
"Due to what we have done with Lagos NYSC, the Director General's attention was drawn to our efforts and for this year, we plan to do what we have done with Lagos State NYSC in all other states within the Federation." He concluded.

2013 promises to be filled up with lots of activities that EDC has lined up! Read all about our activities in the next post.
