WIA2013 Day 2 Session 2: Glass Ceiling: Does it Exist?


Mary Akpobome, Executive Director, Heritage Banking Company Limited Mary Akpobome is a seasoned banker with over 20 years experience in the Nigerian banking industry. She started her banking career in the then Citizens International Bank Limited and grew steadily through the rungs to the position of Executive Director (Designate), before resigning in 2008.

 In 2009, she teamed up a new investor to rebuild the former SGBN Limited which recently entered the Banking Industry under the name, Heritage Banking Company Limited (HBC). As an Executive Director in HBC, Mary oversees the Ivory Banking Directorate which covers Private Wealth Management, SME, Retail and Personal Banking.

Mary holds an MBA from University of Lagos and a B.Sc (Hons.) Theatre Arts from the University of Benin.
She attended many professional courses and training in her career development, which include the Pan-Atlantic University Advanced Management Program, Orchestrating Winning Performance at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland, Anti-Money Laundering Training and leadership and performance related programs.

Mary is married with 2 children and has other interests which include social and professional networking, reading, and travelling. She is also deeply involved in mentoring and charity work.



Mrs. Bisi LamiKanra, KPMG
Bisi Lamikanra is the Partner and Head of KPMG’s Management Consulting Business. She heads the financial services sector across Africa and has led several important engagements covering a wide range of disciplines across key sectors in West Africa. She has a degree in Economics from the University of Lagos and completed the Advanced Management Programme of the Lagos Business School. She has extensive business strategy, IT advisory and organization design experience across a number of industries, including financial services, oil and gas, telecommunications and power. Bisi LamiKanra is an active member of the leadership of various professional associations, community oriented charities and other non-governmental organizations. These include including the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise Development Centre, Fate Foundation, Corona schools Trust Council, AART of life foundation, Bethesda Foundation, to name a few. She is passionate about educating the next generation and believes strongly in the development of world-class citizens and in ensuring that no child is left behind.
