SME Conference: Blast from the Past pt2

2011: Infrastructure, Key Challenges for SMEs

2011 was a notable year for many of us, but one event we will never forget was our annual SME Conference.

Faced with such a tough theme, the Enterprise Development Centre set out to achieve the following goals with the conference:
Facilitate the acquisition of an in-depth understanding of how the public and private sector can assist in the crucial development of small and growing businesses in Nigeria. Emphasize on the various avenues that the public sector is implementing to enable an environment that will encourage growth of the small and growing businesses in the country.

The event was held on the 29th and 30th of November, 2011, and the Keynote speech was given by Mr. Raji, on behalf of Mrs. Olusola Senapoo Oworu, the Honorable Commissioner of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Raji said that Lagos State was working on several avenues and activities that would ensure that the various strategies assembled for the continuous growth of SMEs were working in efficiency.

One of the sessions during the conference, titled "The Role of Government in Stimulating Growth", was lead by Alhaji Baba Mohammed, who is the Director of the One-stop Shop of the Nigerian Investment Provision Commission. He spoke on the framework being developed by the Federal Government to create a bridge that will end the gap between the various SME policies and the Small and Growing businesses in the country.

Other speakers at the conference include Ernest Ndukwe, Sam Udeozo, and Dr. John Isemede of the National Agency of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA.

The Gala dinner took place on the second day of the conference, at the same venue, and the guest speaker, Mr. Towry Coker, of Towry-Coker Associates, encouraged all the SMEs in attendance to keep up their good work, emphasizing that it is the great impact of small and growing businesses that creates wealth globally.
